Our aims

The aim of Scout Movement is to promote the development of young people in achieving their full physical, intellectual, social and spiritual potential, as individuals, as responsible citizens and as members of their local, national and international communities. We hope to achieve this by providing structured programmes that provide progressive training and are guided by adult leadership

What this means for a Beaver, Cub or Scout who joins 1st Bishopthorpe Scout Group is that they will find in each section a weekly programme of activities, supplemented by weekend or week-long trips, that will get them thinking differently, will sometimes leave them a little tired, will usually involve a large amount of fun, but at the same time will challenge them to think of others, whether that be their friends or the wider community. There is a strong emphasis on 'learning by doing', of taking responsibility and working together in teams, and tackling activities where there is an acceptable level of risk. Through this we believe every young person will have the opportunity to develop useful skills, to make new friends, and have a lot of fun in the process.
